Yrellag Gallery is pleased to present "Between Us," a dual exhibition featuring artists Jake Wong and Alan Cheung. In this exhibition, the two artists will explore the theme of relationships, which are inherently inseparable from the human experience. Each artist brings their own perspective into the discussion and uncovered their dual understanding to the concept of relationships.

 

Jake Wong approaches the topic from a subjective, scientific standpoint, using the concept of "entropy," a term in Physics to describe an irreversibly increases of systematic chaos, causing a gradual shift from order to disorder, to metaphorically illustrate the various dynamics of human relationships, including their tensions and changes, while reflecting on their endings. When entropy reaches its limit, the result is "heat death." If the turmoil within any relationship inevitably leads to an end, it prompts a philosophical reflection on the meaning of relationships.

 

Alan Cheung believes that waiting is an essential element in the continuation of relationships. He uses the metaphor of a house to represent an individual, placing it in unusual environments. The stillness of the interior space creates a subtle contrast with the tumultuous and restlessness external atmosphere, bringing forth an inevitable sense of powerlessness during the waiting process. Cheung's works capture the emotional transformations and uncertainties that develop in silence during periods of sedimentation, unveiling how relationships evolve over time.

 

From the foresight of the ending to the unknown in the silence, through paintings, Wong and Cheung each interpret relationships in their eyes.

 

The opening reception for this exhibition will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2024, from 6 PM to 8 PM, where the artists will be present. The exhibition will run from November 19, 2024, to December 7, 2024.

Yrellag Gallery 欣然呈獻藝術家黃文杰、張家綸雙人展《雙關》Between us，這次展覽兩位藝術家將探索關係這個命題。關係是一種從人𧗠生而來，與人密不可分的東西，兩位藝術家從不同的角度出發，覺察各自對關係的看法。

 

從客觀科學角度切入，黃文杰運用「熵增」，在物理學中形容因混亂程度不可逆轉地增加，從秩序邁向失序的概念，在他的作品中比喻人的各種關係，張力與變化，並反思這些關係最終的結局。當熵增加到極限，「熱寂」便是盡頭。若然任何關係裡的騷動只會迎來完結，關係的意義又會是什麼？

 

張家綸則相信等待是關係的延續。他以房子作為人類的隱喻，把他們置於不尋常的環境中。靜止的室內空間與騷動的外部氛圍形成微妙的對比，等待中的無力感頓時滿溢。張氏的作品捕捉了在沉澱過程中那悄然滋長的情感變化與不確定性，展現關係隨著時間推移的演變。

 

從結局的預視，到沉寂中的未知，黃氏和張氏在繪畫作品中各自詮釋關係在他們眼中的模樣。

 

本展將於 2024 年 11 月 21 日(星期四)下午 6 時至晚上 8 時舉行開幕酒會，屆時藝術家將親臨現場，展期由 2024 年 11 月 19 日至 2024 年 12 月 7 日。
